Silver Filling feels like a crater?
Two days ago I went in to get a filling on my last tooth and when I was done, the dentist told me that he put in a silver filling, and explained that is better for back molars where most chewing happens. And that this would last longer than the white filling.
After the numbness wore off, I traced my tongue along the filling expecting it to feel just as the white fillings I have had before. But instead I felt what feels like a round crater (hole) rather than a full filling. I also had sensitivity with cold drinks/cold grapes. The sensitivity to cold has been dimishing I think, but what about the hole I feel with my tongue? It’s very definite, and not like it is filled all the way up.
The dentist office told me that the sensitivity is expected, but that it should go away in a few days. And when I asked them about the crater (hole) where the filling was placed, they said that fillings are never filled to the top. That is very strange news to me. What do you think?
I have a few silver fillings. True, they do feel more like a little crater in your tooth than a plain white filling. This is because white fillings are made of a material that is much less noticeable in terms of feeling, on that feels more like your actual tooth. This way, you dont notice the white fillings as much as the metal, silver fillings. There is a hole with white fillings, too. It just doesnt seem any different because it feels like an actual tooth (even though the metal filling feels the same way after a while, too).
